I have an old debt that is being collected from a debt collector not the credit card company. The debt was not mine. My card was stolen by my ex and he rang up a 10,000.00 bill. I tried to explain this to the credit card company and they ended up selling the debt. I stupidly made a payment 2006 and did not hear from them in a while but they have found me again. I am in the process of sending them a request to verify the debt by requesting a Form 8 verification request. I am also filing a sworn denial with the superior court. I was wondering since there is one more year left before this debt is 7 years where it can become invalid should I continue with my course of action or wait it out till the limitation to collect this debt is over? I do not want to open a can of worms if I do not have to. Your help is greatly appreciated.
